San Telmo Productions was recently in charge of fixing a shoot for Saloon Media’s TV show Mummies Alive, which has its Canadian crew flying around the world filming different kinds of mummies. Their latest foray was in the province of Salta, Argentina, where the famous “Children of Llullaillaco” (three mummified children, the best preserved Inca mummies of all time) were found.

San Telmo Productions provided the crew with work visas, transport and film permits, and handled pre-production in both Salta and Buenos Aires. Arranging the shoot with the Museum of High Altitude Archeology took a lot of negotiating, considering the frailty of the mummies (which must be kept at all times at a temperature of -10 °C, or 14 °F).

Local fixer Pancho Casagrande helped out the crew during the shoot in the mountainous Salta. Based in northern Argentina, he has worked with San Telmo Productions for a variety of projects, including Discovery Channel and other commercial shoots, and has more than 15 years of experience. We are very happy to have him on our team. Salta is always an attractive location.

In the end the crew was allowed the rare privilege to shoot on the premises for 3 days, filming CGI scans of La Doncella (“The Maiden”), the oldest and best preserved mummy of the trio, a 15 year old Sun Virgin that was ritually sacrificed 500 years ago. They also interviewed the founder of the Society for High Mountain Medical Research, Dr. Marcelo Parada.
