Damián Szifron’s “Wild Tales” (Relatos salvajes) made box-office history this weekend in Argentina, informed The Hollywood Reporter, opening with 450,000 tickets (an approximate $2.5 million dollars) and setting a new record not just for any movie launch of 2014 so far, but any Argentinian movie ever released as well.

The movie launched with 288 prints and, according to Ultracine, boasted over 63% attendance rate on its first week, displacing blockbuster Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as #1 from the top box office. Currently in its second running week, Wild Tales is closing in on the 1,000,000 tickets figure and enjoying widespread critical acclaim.

The movie was favorably received at the 67° Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is becoming a strong contender for Argentina’s official submission at the Academy Awards. You can read our review here.
